The functions of the Department include:

- Succession planning
- Handling of appointment, promotion and discipline
- Render medical and health services to staff
- Secretariat of junior and senior staff committees
- Staff Co-operative
- Office allocation
- Pension and post service welfare
- Staff welfare
- Industrial relation and labour matters
- Responsible for all establishment matters in the NYSC
- IT based Personnel records

- Posting and transfers
- Salary administration
- Stores management
