ENROLLMENT OF CORPS MEMBERS INTO NHIS –NYSC GROUP INDIVIDUAL FAMILY HEALTH FINANCE PROGRAMME (GIFSHIP-n)

ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE BY CORPS MEMBERS THROUGH GIFSHIP-n

Group Individual Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP-n) is a form of health insurance that is designed and customised for mobilised and serving corps members.


This programme grants access to adequate and quality healthcare services, providing the corps members with financial risk protection.


It is an all-inclusive platform paid for by the Federal government of Nigeria, managed by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).


Programme’s Objectives

  1. To ensure every mobilized and serving corps member has equitable access to adequate and qualitative healthcare services
  2. To protect corps members from the financial hardship of huge medical bills
  3. To limit the rise in the cost of healthcare services
  4. To maintain a high standard of healthcare services
  5. To improve and harness private sector participation in the provision of healthcare

Who is eligible for the Programme

  1. Mobilized and serving corps members
  2. Babies delivered by pregnant corps members during the period of coverage (service year). The coverage of these babies is for twelve (12) weeks from the date of delivery.

Period of coverage under the programme

From the date mobilized to the end of the three weeks terminal leave after the passing out parade.


How to register for the programme

The individual corps members is automatically enrolled into the programme upon registering for NYSC.


Coverage Phases of the programme

  1. Pre- Orientation Camp Phase: Corps members are to access health services with their mobilization letter from any NHIA accredited hospital of his/her choice.
  2. Orientation Camp Phase: NYSC will select NHIA accredited primary care facilities to manage the various camp clinics.
  3. After the Orientation Phase: Corps members can access health services from any NHIA accredited primary healthcare facilities in his/her LGA of deployment.
  4. Terminal Leave Phase: This is the three weeks after pass-out. Corps members can access health services from any NHIA accredited Hospital of his/her choice.
